Assembly Bill 2217 raises the fees Notaries may charge for the first time since 1994.

Changes:

1. Raises the maximum fee Notaries may charge for taking an acknowledgment or affidavit, or administering an oath or affirmation from $10 to $15.
2. Raises the maximum fee Notaries may charge for taking a deposition to from $20 $30 and for administering the oath or affirmation for the deposition from $5 to $7, and raises the fee for the certificate to a deposition from $5 to $7.
3. Raises the maximum fee Notaries may charge for certifying a copy of a power of attorney from $10 to $15.
4. Raises the maximum fee a Notary who is qualified and bonded as an immigration consultant may charge for completing a set of immigration forms for per individual from $10 to $15.
5. Makes a technical, non-substantive change.

Analysis:

Assembly Bill 2217 effectively gives Notaries a 50% raise from the maximum fees for most notarial acts under current law. Assembly member David Hadley, the bill sponsor, had introduced legislation last year that would have eliminated the fee schedule entirely, allowing Notaries to charge their own fees. That measure was unsuccessful. This year he proposed AB 2217 with its 50% raise based on the increase in the consumer price index since 1994, the last time fees were raised in California. The bill passed through the Assembly without objection on the consent calendar, and easily passed the Senate. With the increase, which is effective January 1, 2017, California will now be alone in allowing Notaries to charge the highest fees of any other state.

You need an eTA to visit or transit through Canada by air if you are a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. and have a valid alien registration card (Green Card).

Note: you will need a passport from your country of nationality to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visitor visa

I am a permanent resident of the U.S. (Green Card holder) coming to Canada by car. Do I need an eTA?

No. You do not need an eTA when you enter Canada by land or sea. However, you will need an eTA if you fly to Canada.

Whenever you travel to Canada, regardless of the method of travel, carry your valid Green Card to show your status as a U.S. permanent resident.

New entry requirement now in effect

Visa-exempt foreign nationals are expected to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens, and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA.

Note: Until September 29, 2016, travellers who do not have an eTA can board their flight, as long as they have appropriate travel documents, such as a valid passport. During this leniency period, border services officers can let travellers arriving without an eTA into the country, as long as they meet the other requirements to enter Canada. Do I need a visa to visit Canada?

Ddepending on your citizenship, you may need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visa to travel to Canada.

Transport companies, such as airlines, must ensure you have proper, valid travel documents when you travel to Canada. If you do not have the proper documents, including an eTA or visa, you may be delayed or denied boarding.

Ethiopia – Lawful permanent resident of the U.S. with valid Green Card

You need an eTA to visit or transit through Canada by air if you are a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. and have a valid alien registration card (Green Card).

United States – citizens

You do not need a visa or an eTA to visit or transit Canada.

Germany

You need an eTA to visit or transit through Canada by air.

If you travel by land or sea, you do not need an eTA. However, you must always travel with acceptable travel documents and identification.

Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement with Safran for its SFCO2 offering which will target fuel efficiency across its fleet.

The service will be deployed later this year and the French OEM said as well as targeting reductions in the airline’s fuel consumption, it will also explore the implementation of best operating practices.

This will see Safran analyse Ethiopian’s maintenance and flight operations, and specialized SFCO2 teams will submit a report to including personalised recommendations for operational improvements.

François Planaud, head of the services and MRO Division at Safran Aircraft Engines, said the cooperation will “significantly” reduce Ethiopian’s fuel bill.
